The word blinds is referred to the curtain formats which are used for covering the windows. Blinds as such can called as window blinds since they are used as window coverings and are made in long strip sort of formats. Window blinds can be made from fabrics or some hard or rigid material as well like wood or some sort of metal. Initially blinds are the curtains used for window however we use this BLINDS because these are a typical curtains which cover the window partially and the observers view gets limited to a certain level only, hence making the view blind. Bit is interesting to know that in Britain the word is blind is referred for the awnings as well. A few examples o0f some typical blinds are shutters, roller shades, curtain-like tracks, Venetian blinds etc. however the main blinds are slat blinds and solid blinds which have two way openings.

Window blinds are quite useful also not only to limit the view but also in many other ways like they prevent the excessive heat and light coming from the sun from directly penetrating into the houses. More over these are manually operative and some are automated by the motorization, some have remote or keypad control and then there are others which can be controlled by the computer or wall switches as well. Thus these methods have reduced the chances of dangers and hazards like the blinds getting strucked or jammed.
