Ok so we can probably narrow it down to two very basic living room designs that you can use, depending on your individual needs. First off, what do you actually want your living room to achieve, and what do you want to do in there? Is it an entertainment hub for your friends and family, for parties. Or maybe itll be more digital entertainment your after, you know, movies and music. Well, the living room design you choose should reflect its basic function.
Back when i were a lad, living room designs primarily centered around the entertainment of friends and family. Larger homes today still harbour that general feel, as they have the space to play with. The basic idea behind these kinds of rooms is that they support good conversation in one way or another. A massive plasma with a few chairs facing it will sap the energy out of any conversation, as not even the most chattery person will not find it easy to overcome everyone facing the same direction. An area where all the seating surrounds a central position is much more conversation friendly!
Unfortunately for most of us, there will never be enough room in our houses to dedicate one area to just the giving and recieving of discussion. Its such a shame, but because of this, the older style living rooms are slowly but surely giving way to the more space efficient type. Most of us end up using our living rooms as a sort of ‘TV room’, and the living room design reflects that, where a couch and chairs facing the television with a table of some kind laid out in front is appropriate and conducive to laying around watching the tube. What a waste.
So where, when you bring your friends around, do you go to discuss the ins and outs of the world? Well i end up stuck in the kitchen, theres a big enough table in there with chairs, and theres no goggle box there. Not sure that going to a friends house and just watching TV is exactly my cuppa tea, unless they're REALLY good friends you see a lot of.
So heres the ultimate challenge for you, design a lounge for your house that both contains a TV, but fully supports social interaction to its fullest. Its hard to be sure, but won't it be fun!
